Round up your monthly bill to make change in your community

What is Operation Round Up?

One of the cooperative principles emphasizes our commitment to the communities we serve. Operation Round Up is an opportunity to help the communities in which you live and work with spare change.

BEC members can choose to “round up” their monthly electric bill to the next whole dollar. For example, if your monthly electric bill is $53.73 Bandera Electric will automatically round up to $54.00, with the additional 27 cents going to the Operation Round Up fund. The bill reflects the rounded up amount, and the average donation for each participating member is $6 per year.

Where does my change go?

Your change goes to the Bandera Electric Charitable Foundation's Operation Round Up fund. This money is then used to provide grants to help individuals, or fund projects in BEC service areas that help our members, your neighbors. When you opt-in to Operation Round Up, you are choosing to help local families and nonprofits. Your donation will support:
  • Community service projects
  • Education and youth programs
  • Environment
  • Disaster relief
  • Health initiatives
With more than 27,000 members, BEC can make a big difference with a little pocket change. If half of BEC members participated, BEC could distribute nearly $160,000 in a single year! All funds collected are tax-deductible and BEC covers the small administrative costs to run the program, which benefits the community.

Who is Operation Round Up?

Operation Round Up is governed by its own board of volunteer directors with separate bylaws from your co-op. Funds gathered through Operation Round Up will support the Bandera Electric Charitable Foundation, which was established in 2015 and is a nonprofit organization. The board of directors are BEC members, and operate as a distinct and separate entity from the Cooperative board of directors. The board reviews applications and approves grant funds based on demonstrated need and available funds.
